FACULTY OF EDUCATION WEBSITE SWITCH

Hello everyone. The new Faculty of Education site has now been launched. Please visit the new site format and familiarize yourself with the new page layouts. It looks quite different from the “old” version. I encourage you to explore it and any errors you notice or questions you have can be directed to Integrated Communications by using the SEND FEEDBACK button on the bottom right hand corner of every page. I do not have editing rights to this new version, every change goes through Integrated Communications’ office and the response rate is supposed to be 24-48 hours.

I am hoping for few to no errors since I went through it myself, but sometimes things can be missed.

Thank-you,

Jill

GOLD CUP PARADE FLOAT

I am wondering if there is interest in the faculty to submit a float for this year’s Gold Cup Parade. This year’s theme is “Parade of Heroes” and teachers definitely fit into that category. The deadline for floats is August 8th, and it could be fun to have the faculty and some BEd students and teachers in the parade.

If you are interested in helping out or have some supplies that could be used for decorating a float (and if you have access to a trailer we could use as a float) please let Jill know. This could be a fun way to promote our faculty to the public in a fun way.

Jill 🙂

TEACHING QUALITATIVE RESEARCH AS A TRANSGRESSIVE PRACTICE
C
ALLS FOR PAPERS, SPECIAL ISSUE OF QUALITATIVE INQUIRY

Teaching is essential to the production and reproduction of knowledge in qualitative research (QR) institutionally, pedagogically, and politically. Insufficient attention has been paid to the problematic perception that teaching QR involves merely passing on directive techniques or tool kits. Even less attention has been paid to the pedagogical practices among scholars in the ‘scientific’ fields, Indigenous scholars within the Western core, and qualitative practitioners from the geopolitical South. This special issue will conceptualizes teaching QR as a paradigmatic approach that sustains QR, resists positivistic domination, and encourages transformative potential. Contributions are invited from two thematic clusters:  Teaching QR as a transgressive practice, and Strategies of teaching QR critically.  Details are available in the attached pdf.  Submission deadline is 31-Aug-2014.

SECOND OPEN FORUM REGARDING UPEI INTERNAL RESEARCH FUNDING 16-JULY-2013

A second open forum regarding the UPEI Internal Research Funding Program will be held on Tuesday, July 16th from 2-3pm in the Main Building Faculty Lounge.  As most of you are aware, the UPEI internal funding program is currently on hiatus due to budgetary cutbacks. In the interim, the suite of programs offered by the Research Grants Committee is being reviewed, with a focus toward determining the most appropriate mechanisms for distributing funding in order to meet both the committee’s mandate and the needs of the campus community.  The VP Research is hosting a second open forum to solicit input on the vision and structure of the internal funding program.  Given that it may be possible to reinstate some of the program offerings prior to the fall semester 2013, it is important that they be aware of your concerns and suggestions now.

BEd COORDINATOR

Happy Canada Day! This momentous day also marks the completion of Dr. Sandy McAuley’s interim position as Undergraduate Coordinator in our Faculty. Please join me in thanking him for his excellent work and dedication during the past year. Sandy achieved many things during this short year‑ tops on the list would be his work with a very dedicated BEd Committee to prepare the MPHEC proposal to modify our BEd program (started by Ron MacDonald). We JUST received word that this proposal has been accepted!! Bravo to all and MANY thanks to Sandy! We will be honoring and thanking Sandy during our summer social event on July 24.

Of course, we welcome Dr. Ron MacDonald back in his role as Undergraduate Coordinator. We are sure that he will continue in this role with the same vigor and dedication that he demonstrated in the past ‑ especially after a one‑year sabbatical. Thanks to Ron for accepting to continue this important work!
