The first Global Perspectives cohort of students in the MEd Leadership in Learning program have completed their course requirements, an achievement celebrated with a small reception hosted by Dean MacDonald and his wife Erin. Many of the faculty and staff who have taught and otherwise been involved with this cohort over the past 16 months joined the students to enjoy a pot-luck meal and celebratory cake. And the weather cooperated to make this a memorable evening, as the first snow storm of the season fell outside!

HOSTING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS FOR CHRISTMAS

Colleagues,
Christmas House
As you know we have a number of international students (at BEd, MEd and PhD levels) who will be staying in Charlottetown over the holiday season. Obviously they are far from family, and that is always difficult at this time of the year. This note is to invite us all to share the festive season with our students.

If you would be able to host one or two students for a meal at some point over the Christmas and New Year period, please could you let Christa know? A quick e-mail will suffice, thank you.

If you have already made an arrangement to invite one or more of the international students to your home, please let us know that as well! We can then make sure that other invitations are distributed appropriately.

Many thanks.
Tim

During the presentation, Tim will address questions of internationalization on campus. What does an international education look like? How might domestic students globalize their degree? How can international students influence institutional life? What challenges face students, administrators, faculty, and staff who want to develop international awareness among all members of the campus community? Drawing upon the experience of the Faculty of Education as a case study, he will explore what an internationalized education might look like as well as the difficulties inherent in achieving such a vision.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM THE BOOKSTORE

The UPEI bookstore is once again looking for textbook orders for the upcoming semester. Book orders for the Winter semester can be submitted by email or through the on-line order form.

If you are looking to use resources such as e-books, clickers, on-line access codes, open source materials, please contact the bookstore to see how they can help facilitate that. If there are specific items you want students to have for your course, they can order most items and have it available for students to purchase here.

The bookstore will also be buying used textbooks this fall as we always do. By submitting your book requests now, this allows them to purchase used copies and have those cheaper copies available for sale to students.

If there are books you have ordered in the past and are no longer going to use, please let the bookstore know so that books in stock can be returned. If you are unsure which books they might have that were ordered for one of your courses please contact them. As the majority of publishers do not accept returns beyond 12 months from the invoice date, your attention to this is very important.

The bookstore offers all of their textbooks and e-books for sale online through their website, and each student can access their own customized list of books through their campus login.  For the past few years the bookstore has also offered price matching on new textbooks. If you are concerned that students can get their books cheaper elsewhere, the bookstore does try to match online prices from websites such as Amazon.ca.  The Faculty encourages all instructors to utilize the service of the bookstore as much as possible.

Your cooperation is much appreciated.
