CALLING SOCIAL BUTTERFLIES!

Just a reminder that the Faculty of Education will be forming a social committee to mull over and plan future social events for the faculty.  Are you feeling festive?  Want to contribute to the fun?  Please join us in Memorial 417 at noon on 30-Apr-2014 to volunteer for the social committee and help brainstorm the next event.  If you would like to attend but are unable to, please contact Julie and let her know.

CONVOCATION

Convocation will be held 10-May-2014.  All faculty members who wish to participate in the academic procession are requested to confirm their attendance to Eileen Kinch.

DEBRIEFING BY INTERNATIONAL AND INDIGENOUS SPECIALIZATION STUDENTS

Faculty and staff are invited to the final International and Indigenous Specialization debriefing on Thursday 08-May-2014, at 6:00pm in Main 432.  Join students as they share their specialization experience.  A light supper will be available at 6:00pm, and the program will begin at 6:30pm.

This inspirational video is a great reminder of the tremendous learning and growth that has taken place for many of our students.  We encourage everyone to view this video (shared with permission of the student), as we welcome more and more international students to our Faculty community.

The Faculty Development Offices invites you to attend a public presentation on Innovations in Teaching and Learning.  Ken Steele will present Back to the Future: What’s Really New in Teaching and Learning from 10:30am – noon on 01-May-2014 in McDougall Hall 242.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Childcare 2020: From Vision To Action (Winnipeg, MB, November 13–14, 2014)

The policy committee for the fourth national childcare policy conference “ChildCare 2020: From Vision to Action” invites proposals on Early Childhood Education and Care policy research with a particular interest in knowledge mobilization, broadly defined.  The deadline for 250 word abstracts is 15-June-2014.  Details can be found in the attached pdf.

HURRAHS

Lots of good news from the Faculty of Education this week!

  • Linyuan Guo and Michael Brennan have set their wedding date!  The happy couple will be wed this coming July 19th.  Congratulations Linyuan and Michael!!!!
  • Valerie Campbell has been awarded the $5,000 Canadian Federation of University Women Graduate Scholarship in Education.  This is the second year in a row that this scholarship was awarded to a PHD in Educational Studies student (with our own Gabriela Sanchez winning it last year).  Congratulations!!!
  • Verne Lorway will be the first Education PhD student from UPEI to defend her dissertation this coming fall.  Stay tuned for details!
