DID SOMEONE SAY CAKE?

The Faculty is VERY excited to welcome Nicole Higginbotham as Administrative Support for undergraduate programs in the faculty.  Nicole will be coming from the Business Co-op Office and will join our team this coming Thursday!  Rumour has it that there will be cake around 12:15pm on Thursday, but it is not sure whether the faculty is celebrating Nicole’s arrival or the fact that Karen-Anne has to finally clean her desk.  In either case, there is much rejoicing.  And cake.  There’s that too.

If you get a chance to stop by and say hello to Nicole please drop by!

ROOM CHANGE FOR SPECIALIZATION DE-BRIEFING – 08-MAY-2014

Please note that the room for the International and Indigenous Specialization de-briefing on Thursday, 08-May-2014 will be Main 432.  It is a wonderful opportunity to hear our specialization students share their experiences.  A light supper will be available at 6:00pm, and the program will begin at 6:30pm.

Just a reminder that the Faculty of Education will be forming a social committee to mull over and plan future social events for the faculty.  If you want to contribute to the committee please join us in Memorial 417 at noon on 30-Apr-2014.  If you would like to attend but for some reason are not able to join us on Wednesday, please contact Julie and let her know.

STEM EDUCATION CONFERENCE

The 3rd International Conference of STEM in Education takes place July 12-15, 2014 in Vancouver, BC.  This 4-day conference provides an opportunity for local and international educators and researchers from schools, universities, businesses, industries and other agencies to share and discuss innovative practices and research initiatives designed to advance STEM education.  Details are available on the conference website.

Stewart, J., Guo, L., Ticento, T. & Li, X. (2014). Refugee student integration: Building welcoming communities and schools for a sustainable future. Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Partnership Development Grant. ($196,476, co-investigator).

Guo, L., Francis, C. & Townsend, E. (2014). Examining the impact of UPEI’s pre-service teachers’ practicum on selected Kenyan schools. UPEI Major Research Grant (Principal investigator , $5000).

• More reasons to eat cake!!!! — We are also very excited to report that Cathy Hennessey, Carolyn Francis, and Stephanie Knickle-Currie have all received extensions on their contracts with the Faculty of Education.  We are so very pleased to continue working with these great individuals!
