MERIT AWARD FOR SCHOLARLY ACHIEVEMENT

The UPEI Faculty Association invites nominations of candidates for the University’s 2015-2016 Merit Awards for Scholarly Achievement.  These prestigious awards consist of a $500 cash prize and a plaque.  Deadline for receipt of complete nomination files is 14-Mar-2016.  Details can be found in the attached document.

TRANSCENDING RACISM AND DISCRIMINATION WORKSHOP

The Council of Canadians – PEI Chapter and the Black Cultural Society of Prince Edward Island are hosting a workshop: “Transcending Racism and Discrimination” from 2-4pm on Saturday, 27-Feb-2016 in Room 207 of Murphy’s Community Centre (storm date 28-Feb-2016).

Moderated by Josie Baker of the Cooper Institute, a number of panelists (including Zain Esseghaier) will look at the reality of racism and discrimination on Prince Edward Island in 2016 and hopefully be able to highlight appropriate steps to move forward and create greater inclusiveness within the Prince Edward Island community.  The workshop welcomes community members from all levels.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — DESTINATION IMAGINATION PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT

This spring, the Department of Education, Early Learning and Culture (DEELC) will be hosting its very first provincial Destination Imagination tournament (April 9th at East Witshire Intermediate School).  The Department is currently seeking volunteers to assist in the this event.  Appraisers of the various challenges will participate in a one day training session on 11-Mar-2016.  You can learn more about the challenges here.

RESCHEDULED DEPARTURE OF MYSTERY OF THE SEAS

As a result of last Friday’s storm, the “Cruising for Murder” mystery party has been rescheduled for Friday, 19-Feb-2016 at 6pm in the Faculty Lounge.

Please contact Ashley if you were a main character and can no longer attend, or if you couldn’t attend before but would now like to participate.

The event is sure to be a lot of fun, so please come on out and mix and mingle on the high seas with us!

1ST INTERNATIONAL TEACHING AND LEARNING DIALOGUES CONFERENCE (June 2016)

Please consider attending and presenting at the 1st International Teaching and Learning Dialogues Conference at the Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Richmond Campus, Richmond, BC, Canada, June 9-10, 2016. Organized and facilitated by the editors of Transformative Dialogues, the conference theme is “Teaching and Learning Dialogues: Practice, Share, Publish.”  More information can be found on their website.

KNOCKING DOWN THE WALLS: SHOWCASING INNOVATIVE RESEARCH AND PRACTICE IN ONLINE CLASSROOMS (March 2016)

The Canadian Network for Innovation in Education is hosting a virtual conference March 7-10, 2016. They invite you to share your innovative practices and research in their Knocking Down the Walls Showcase. Deadline for submissions is 15-Feb-2016. Congratulations to Dr. Tim Goddard, who has been acclaimed to the board of the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences as Director, Teaching and Learning. This is a two‐year term position which commences at Congress 2016 in Calgary.
