CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS

There are several opportunities to nominate your peers for their great work at the moment.  Please consider the possibility of recognizing someone with a Presidential Recognition Award or Hessian Award:

Presidential Recognition Awards

In recognition of the outstanding performance and dedication of our faculty and staff, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements.

Up to 10 Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Faculty, Librarians and Clinical Veterinary Professionals and four Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Staff will be awarded in 2018.  These awards will be presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Tuesday, 15-May-2018 from 2:00-4:00 in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre.

Nominations for both faculty and staff awards close on Wednesday, 04-Apr-2018.

Hessian Merit Awards for Teaching Excellence

The University of Prince Edward Island’s Hessian Merit Award for Teaching Excellence publicly acknowledge individuals whose work has contributed to instructional excellence at UPEI. The UPEI Hessian Merit Award Excellence in Teaching Committee is currently calling for nominations for these awards. The deadline for nominations is noon on 02-Mar-2018.

IN THE NEWS

We are very proud to share two news stories which feature Faculty of Education students recently.

CBC News reported on the research work of graduate student Grace Wanjohi, in sending health education messages to Kenyans.  You can find that story here.

In addition, the Faculty’s BEd student stravelling abroad for practicum was the subject of another news story. BEd students Kelsie Macintyre, Alexa Camirand, Frankie Jean McGuigan, Andrew Kostyniuk and Marie-Pier Savoie were highlighted in the article.  You can read about the exciting things they will be doing in their placements here.

In addition, a CBC News story on how some experts think P.E.I.’s education system could be improved included Dr. Tess Miller speaking on the practice of social promotion. You can read that story here.

HURRAHS!

GoldstarCongratulations to graduate student Amanda Brazil  on the publication of an article “Universites as inclusive learning organizations for women?: Considering the role of women in faculty and leadership roles in academe” in The Learning Organization. The article is coauthoried with Patricia Gouthro and Nancy Taber.  You can view the article here.

GoldstarDr. Sean Wiebe’s session at CSSE last year was menioned in a blog post on the CSSE website.  The blogger discusses the Spotlight Session: the CACS-ACÉC Symposium Re(mixing) Curriculum Playlists: Responses of Synopsis and Expansion affected her practice.  Congratulations to Sean and his co-presenters on this great feedback.
