BEd STUDENT AWARDS

On 08-Jan-2015, an awards ceremony was held for BEd Scholarship and Bursary winners for 2014-2015.  The Faculty would like to thank all those involved in putting this great event together, particularly Dr. Tess Miller, the Awards Committee, Nicole Higginbotham, and the UPEI Department of Development and Alumni Engagement.

RESEARCH GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

UPEI INTERNAL RESEARCH GRANTS – 2015 COMPETITION

The Research Grants Committee invites applications for the Internal Research Grant Program – 2015 Competition (valued at up to $5000 for a one-year term).

Eligible applicants include Tenured, Tenure Track, Term and Sessional UPEI Faculty in Arts, Science, Business, Education, or Nursing, and Librarians, who are employed by UPEI at the time of application and for the duration of the award. A professor emeritus may apply as co-applicant with a tenured UPEI faculty member.

The application deadline is 4pm on 30-Jan-2015.

SSHRC KNOWLEDGE SYNTHESIS GRANTS COMPETITION

SSHRC would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the launch of a Knowledge Synthesis Grants competition (up to 15 awards valued at up to $25,000 each). This competition is launched in support of the objectives of the Imagining Canada’s Future initiative, with a focus on one of the six future challenge areas.

In this competition, proposals are sought that address the challenge area of: What new ways of learning, particularly in higher education, will Canadians need to thrive in an evolving society and labour market?

The call for proposals is currently posted on SSHRC’s website in, with an application deadline on 19-Feb-2015.

These grants are not intended to support original research; rather they are intended to support the synthesis of existing research knowledge on the topic and the identification of knowledge gaps.

NEW INTERNATIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD

Have you noticed a UPEI faculty member that deserves to be recognized for promoting global outlook, and/or increasing cross-cultural understanding, collaborations and partnerships?  The Director of the International Relations Office is accepting nominations for the Internationalization Excellence Award.  This $500 award will be presented annually during International Development Week, and the winner will be nominated for the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) Excellence Award.  Nominations may be made by any member of the UPEI community, including current students.

Details on the award can be found here.  Nominations are due by noon on 26-Jan-2015.

CLIPS FROM COLLEAGUES

(Shared by Lyndsay) FREE FUN FAMILY LITERACY EVENT

Join the PEI Literacy Alliance in celebrating Family Literacy Day on January 24 from 12-3pm at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery. This is a fun and free event.

Families will have a chance to create a stop motion animation film, experience a YouTube book and attend free digital literacy workshops. There will also be two performances from The Music Man, celebrity readers and interactive booths. There will be snacks, giveaways and lots of activities for all ages. The Alliance will be giving away new children’s books and families will have a chance to win an iPad!
